Museum of the Krychevsky art family

Museum of the Krychevsky art family

The Krychevsky Art Family Museum is Ukraine’s premier pottery facility and can truly be called a symbol of Ukrainian pottery. It is not merely a building, but a space where the history and future of Ukrainian ceramics took shape.
The building was designed by the outstanding Ukrainian architect and artist Vasyl Krychevsky—one of the founders of Ukrainian Art Nouveau. Its forms blend tradition and innovation, and the structure itself is a work of art.
It was here, over a century ago, that the pottery school system began: workshops, schools, and cooperatives operated here, and later, the famous “Artistic Ceramics” factory. Outstanding artists, scholars, and masters have passed through these walls, creating and developing Opishne pottery and making it famous far beyond Ukraine’s borders.
This place retains a special atmosphere—as if the spirit of creativity, labor, and inspiration still lives here. Every corner reminds us that tradition is passed down from generation to generation.
Today, the museum is also a story of revival. It was literally brought back to life thanks to people who didn’t wait for help but took it upon themselves to restore it and managed to breathe new life into it.
A special place here is held by the Wall of Ukrainian Pottery Glory—a space of memory, pride, and inspiration. It is not just a memorial, but a symbol that the tradition lives on, evolves, and has a future.
This place is worth visiting to experience: Opishnia is not just a dot on the map. It is the true center of Ukrainian culture.
