Five Ukrainian villages were nominated for The Best Tourism Villages 2026
The State Tourism Development Agency of Ukraine, together with experts, has identified 5 villages and towns that will represent Ukraine in the UN Tourism international initiative. (Read more…)
This year’s candidates were:
- Opishnya (Poltava region) – a center of Ukrainian pottery;
- Vyhoda (Ivano-Frankivsk region) – center of ecotourism and «Carpathian tram»;
- Kryvorivnia (Ivano-Frankivsk region) – the spiritual heart of Hutsul region;
- Medzhibyzh (Khmelnytskyi region) – a village with a unique fortress and multicultural heritage;
- Kitayhorod (Khmelnytskyi region) is a combination of natural landscapes and historical monuments.
Participation in The Best Tourism Villages is an important step for the international promotion of Ukrainian destinations, the development of local communities and the popularization of Ukraine’s cultural heritage in the world.
The results of the UN Tourism international selection will be announced at the end of 2026.

On June 15, 2026, the XIII Session of the Academy began in the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishny!
It would seem like an ordinary summer day, but right now human roads have converged in Opishny, starting hundreds and thousands of kilometers from here. Poltava and Kharkiv, Kyiv and Vorzel, the American states of Maryland and Ohio. It was from there that the participants of this year’s session visited. They met in the Pottery Capital of Ukraine to unite around pottery, culture and creativity.
Curators of the XIII session of the ACADEMY:
- Oleksandr Shkurpela (Opishne, Ukraine) – is a well-known potter and artist who has devoted many years to the development and popularization of Opishne pottery;
- Natalya Kormelyuk (Rockville, Maryland, USA) – potter, professor, teacher-pedagogue, who actively promotes international communication and development of creative projects of the Academy;
- Natalya Matviychuk (Opishne, Ukraine) – ceramic artist, organizer and active participant of numerous creative and artistic initiatives, who tirelessly combines creative work with cultural and educational activities.
The participants of the summer pottery session were:
- Elmira Abasova (Poltava, Ukraine);
- Karine Balayan (Kyiv, Ukraine);
- Svitlana Maslova (Kharkiv, Ukraine);
- Tatyana Panchenko (Poltava, Ukraine);
- Darya Pushechnikova (Kyiv, Ukraine);
- Olga Tsurkalenko (Vorzel, Ukraine);
- Daniel Ross Chrisman (Columbus, Ohio, USA).
For 21 days, academicians will have a rich program: lectures from ceramologists, a review of museum exhibits, acquaintance with potters and ceramic artists, interesting leisure time and hard work, because the learning process requires not only desire, but also certain efforts.
The opening was accompanied by warm words from the organizers, sincere acquaintance and lively communication, which immediately created an atmosphere of trust, openness and creative unity.«Over the next three weeks, you will not only learn pottery. You will discover a new world for yourself – a world of traditions, culture, creativity and self-knowledge. I hope that each of you will be able to see in Opishny the beauty, inspiration and that special spirit that lives on this earth. Today there was an interesting thought that power can be obtained from the earth. We are used to looking at the sky and asking for blessings from above, but there is also power under our feet – in clay, which for centuries helped people create, express themselves and leave their mark on the world. It is clay that gives a person the opportunity to reveal his talent and feel part of a great cultural tradition. For modern Ukraine, pottery – is more than a craft or an art, it is a way of asserting our nation, preserving our identity and historical memory. Despite all the trials that our state is going through, Ukrainian culture remains indestructible. Ukrainian pottery, which is passed down from generation to generation, preserving the voice of our ancestors, is also indestructible. We are the successors of a great tradition created by many generations of Ukrainian potters. That is why the International E-Summer ACADEMY OF POTTERY is designed to unite people around common values, love for culture and the desire to learn about Ukraine through clay. I wish that each of you will find here not only new knowledge and skills, but also new friends, interesting ideas, inspiration and your own path to creative self-expression», – noted Professor, General Director of the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery Oles Poshivaylo. From today, the 13th Session of the International E-Summer ACADEMY OF POTTERY for charismatics, romantics, eccentrics and figures has officially started its work.
